Support Questions
- Original iPhone (first gen) and iPod touch (first gen) support.
- Currently, Swap It does not support first generation iPhone and iPod touches because of their lack of Bluetooth support. Although the first generation iPhone does have Bluetooth, Swap It cannot use it to send data.
- Once the transfer starts Swap It disconnects and says "Different Versions".
- This means the two versions of Swap It are not the same. We block you from swapping with someone who is running an older version of Swap It to prevent data loss. To fix the issue, simply update Swap It on both iPhones or iPod touches to the latest version.
- Swap It does not find another iPhone or iPod touch also running Swap It.
- If your iPhone or iPod touch says "Looking for other iPhones or iPod touches..." and none are found, make sure the two devices are within range of each other, ensure both are running the latest version of Swap It and if all else fails leave Swap It on both devices and launch it again from the home screen. Should the problem still persist try restarting both devices.
- I get "Connection Lost" after tapping Accept or while waiting for someone else to accept.
- This message may show up on one or both devices. Try reconnecting by tapping Cancel and tapping "Tap to Connect" or the blue button on the Local Page. If they continue to have this problem, relaunch Swap It from the home screen.
- Swap It does not display a URL in the text preview (lined paper).
- This can be expected when the pasteboard does not contain a plain text version of the URL. You will still be able to open the URL in Safari and paste it into other Applications.
- Swap It does not show text for a "Apple Web Archive" pasteboard type.
- This can be expected if the plain text version of the Apple Web Archive was not set or was removed. You will still be able to paste the Apple Web Archive into other applications.
- Swap It disconnects in the middle of the transfer (without a pause).
- Through my testing of Swap It I have seen this issue and really have no explanation for why it happens. It appears it has something to do with Bluetooth on the iPhone or iPod touch being disabled. Often times, when you try to reconnect one device may ask you if you would like to turn on Bluetooth. If the problem persists try restarting your iPhone or iPod touch.
- Swapping pasteboards pauses somewhere in the middle of the swapping process.
- Often times you will see the swap progress pause for about 3-seconds before continuing, when this happens Swap It has experienced some difficulties with packet delivery. Swap It will only try so many times before finally giving up. If you encounter a pause longer than about 10-seconds the transfer has stopped and you should relaunch Swap It on both devices and try swapping the pasteboards again. Should this continue to happen try restarting both iPhones or iPod touches.
- Crash on Swap It launch.
- In all probability there is corrupted pasteboard data currently residing in your iPhone or iPod touch's pasteboard. Try to "copy" something else into your pasteboard.
- Unknown Pasteboard Type is shown.
- Swap It will display "Unknown Pasteboard Type" when the contents of your iPhone or iPod touch's pasteboard is of a type Swap It does not currently recognize. That is to say Swap It cannot generate a preview for the given type. Swap It will still be able to swap and override your pasteboard.
- An image does not have a preview.
- Swap It cannot generate a preview for anything other than JPEG, PNG, GIF and TIFF image types. If your pasteboard contains an image in another format, Swap It will be unable to display a preview and display "Unknown Pasteboard Type".
- Why is there a delay when displaying the image preview sometimes?
- If you have a large image (an example of a large image would be one taken by the iPhone 3GS or other digital camera) Swap It will need a short amount of time to resize the image to fit it into the preview space. While Swap It is resizing an image you should not clear the pasteboard or Swap It may crash.
Other Questions
- Can I send my pasteboard to my Mac?
- No. Swap It does not support any transfers other than between an iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 2G and iPod touch 3G. I'm planning this feature in a future version of Swap It.
- Can I send movies?
- No. Swap It cannot send movies that are copied from your Camera Roll.
- What is the maximum size Swap It will send?
- There is no "maximum size". Swap It will send as much data as your iPhone or iPod touch can tolerate before it crashes.
- Does Swap It support WiFi or Internet pasteboard swapping?
- No. Swap It currently only supports Bluetooth.
